Need natural/home remedies for adult acne?

I am 27 and for the first time in my life I am having acne. Due mostly to a big change in my body caused by extreme stress and trauma. It only occurs in the chin/mouth area. I have been fighting this for two years. Have tried counteless OTC medications, switch in birth control (which helped for a while) and my most recent attempt was Pro-Active (as seen on tv). I am a full time college student with no insurance- which means, don't tell me to go to a dermatologist, can't afford. I prefer natural rememdies if you have any advice. Thanks!

Yeah, sorry, dermatologist is pretty much all you've got left. I've had acne since I was about 13 (now 28). I started with your basic skin care that you can get at the drug store then moved on to Pro-Active. Nothing seemed to help. I did see my dermatologist at the on campus clinic (I'm in college too) and he prescribed Clyndamycin (an anti bacterial) and Retin-A to be used in conjunction with Oil of Olay or Dove cleansers. There is a HUGE difference now.

If your school has a clinic check with them. They may be able to help and give you options for health insurance too. Or at least maybe treat the basics.
Reply:Things like toothpaste on the individual bumps can help clear them. But the best thing I found was to change my diet. I went on a carrot juice fast, the result was amazing. Report It

Reply:I do also use natural products like Burt's Bees for cleaning and makeup, and a miracle in a tube is Queen Helene Mint Julep clay masque. It is available at your local grocery or drug store, like Walgreen's, and is about $3 per tube. Report It

Reply:Also, sometimes less than optimal dental health can cause breakouts near the chin and mouth. Make sure teeth are cleaned very thoroughly and use a disinfectant mouthwash and a water pik type appliance. Report It

Reply:The benzol peroxide is very drying and bleaching to the skin. Sometimes an antibacterial soap ( dial) or a castile ( non- animal fat based soap can help. Also consider something like simple Neosporin type ointment. Report It

Reply:If it is hormones, some women find relief when they take certain kinds of birth control pills. But do consider the serious side effects that may come with them.

Good luck Report It

Reply:Based on your description, going to the dermatologist is about the only thing you have left. There are some cheaper antibiotics that may help such as minocycline coupled with the diuretic spirinolactone - this regimen helps a small percentage of people with adult onset acne. But, you probably will wind up on about six months of Accutane or one of the generic accutanes and they cost somewhere around 300 to 400 a month depending on the dosage you're on.
Reply:I use a natural remedy but I buy it at Vitamin World. It's called Acne Relief and I paid $5.00 for a months supply. The first active ingredient is Belladonna (Nightshade which is poisionous in larger doses) and it works wonders for me. It's in a yellow box with blue writing so if you have a vitamin store close to you, just call and ask if they have it.

I've had acne for 20 years and have spend thousands of dollars on 'cures', which of course didn't work.

I have also tried honey, just dabbing honey on my face before going to bed. It did help but it made an awful mess and my hair was stuck to my face when I woke up :( . Good luck
