For the past several months I've been getting really bad breakouts, like all over my face, neck and chest, Its gross. I dont know whats causing it, I havent had any hormonal changes..I've been on the same birth control(mirena) for almost 4 years and I'm not pregnant. I wash my face every morning and night, and I use only oil free lotion. I've tried using anti-acne products...salicylic acid makes it worse, benzoyle peroxide burns my skin...and my doctor prescribed somehting but it just makes my skin dry %26amp; itchy! (and it doent do anyhting for the acne) I dont get a period anymore bc of the mirena, but it seems to happen once a month. Anyone have any other ideas that I can try?

If your doctor's remedy didn't work, then you should go back and say so. Sometimes one thing will work for one person, but not on another. There are other alternatives, though. If nothing else, your doctor should be able to refer you to a dermatologist. Ultimately, if nothing over the counter is working, a dermatologist is going to be your best bet.
Reply:accutane..it works in like 2 months and if you take it for 6 you won't get acne anymore..but its perscription so go see a derm. Good luck
Reply:Proactive works...I use it and I'm 22. Sometimes I fall off the boat with it...b/c it is a pain in the butt to use but if I use it as I am supposed too...I do not have any red bumps.
Reply:If you can afford it try proactive. I tried everything and it did not work then I bought proactive and works great. It is a little on the pricey side, but like a said it works great for me.
Reply:at this point you might need to supplement the birth control with tetracycline, only available through prescription. Increase your zinc intake... that has "cooling" effects with acne. Vitamin E also has effects on cleaning pores. Also focus on diet... salads fruits....that should help

Reply:I try proactive before and it did nothing for me. So I went to the doctors and she changes my birth control pills over to Yasmin, since it helps reduce acne. Been on it for almost a year now and my face is clear and I didn't have to do anything special to fix my problem.
Reply:Speak to a dermatologist. You might need your doctor to refer you to one. The dermatologist will judge how bad your acne is on a scale of severity and prescribe treatment accordingly. They may prescribe antibiotics which may clear it up or if it's really bad in their opinion, they may consider more serious medication (which generally come with other side-effects, so make sure you ask). Either way, a dermatologist is a skin doctor so it's the best expert you're going to get.

Reply:You say no hormonal changes, that you know of, your body does thins that you think that it couldn't. your on birth control, no periods, that taking away the natural flow of your body, so of course your going to break out. I have PCOS, and i break out a week before my period, then on my period i look like i have perfect skin! makes no sense, but then again it does. the syndrome i have cause the natural flow of what my body is suppose to do and messes it up, and i break out.
I would instead check with your family doctor, go to a obgyn and ask to see if you may have a hormonal imbalance, there are SO many women out there that have and don't even know! i have had pcos for several years, i am 28 and i just found out! so you never know.
