Adult acne: Is it true that cheek acne is all hormonal?

And if so, why do hormones break me out even if they don't make me oily? What is an appropriate treatment? I've been told not to dry my skin out but that feels so counter-intuitive?

Adult acne: Is it true that cheek acne is all hormonal?
cheek acne must be hormonal because I started getting acne on my cheeks when I was pregnant. Being pregnant, it is difficult to find stuff I can use b/c of chemicals. I use just a dab of benzoyl peroxide every once in a while on just the infected area. This actually hasn't dried my skin out--I have been using Neutragena spot treatment, which is only 2% medication, but it still does the trick. This has worked for me also. I looked into Alba organic products and bought a cleansing set online. It really helped balance my skin, which was both dry and oily and stopped new breakouts from occurring. I use the Alba Hawaiian line and start with the Pineapple Enzyme cleanser, then the Hibiscus toner and then the oil free green tea moisturizer. Everything smells so good--very sweet and tropical, but very natural. I also used the papaya enzyme mask and this helped clear up my acne scars on my cheeks from my first trimester. You can get these products online at drugstore.com. I was a little skeptical at first, but bought them after reading the reviews--everyone said they were using them for acne-prone combo skin, so I thought I'd try it. It has really improved my skin overall!
Reply:If you dry your pores too much, then they produce more oil to counter act the dryness and you end up with break outs and dry patches around them. Try proactiv. It's not expensive at all - $20/month. I have started using it because of recent breakouts due to pregnancy. I always hesitated to use that product because of cost, but when I looked into it - it's very reasonable. Go to www.proactiv.com
Reply:Salicylic acid is what you need, it is in various washing products (I recommend Quinoderm).
Reply:It could even be stress generated
Reply:If ur acne is hormonal then u need to tackle it from inside ur body as opposed to outside. Try not to use too many products on ur face. just a sensitive face wash (neutrogena wash and mask is excellent) and a moisturiser. The best way to clear this type of acne is, as i said, from within. So, start taking vitamins (try agnus castus, evening primrose oil, and vitamin E). Drink plenty of water, steer clear of fizzy drinks and juices, and greasy food. Hope this helps!
Reply:Not all is hormonal. Could be related to your makeup, hairspray/conditioner, or the product you use to wash your face. Adults respond better with glycolic/salicylic acid washes. They are drying, but that's what you want. Its drying differently than using other products. Use some benzyl peroxide on those areas. If it become itchy or flaky, use an oil-free moisturizer, very lightly. Acne is usually bacteria causing inflammation around the follicles under your skin. hope this helps...there's not ALWAYS an explanation as to why..but there are treatments. And.KEEP your fingers away from your face.
