I have adult acne and although it's not absolutely horrible, it's still bothersome. Any suggestions?

I have tried some prescription meds but they make my face really red and falky. I thought about trying proactive but that is alot of money to spend and then have it not work. Currently I use the Clinique 3 step program twice a day, but it is just to maintain the condition of your face and not for acne. I mostly avoid caffiene and chocolate, and my life has a little stree but it is not overwhelming. I am not sure what is causing the outbreaks. I also use clinique make-up to help prevent future outbreaks. Some of the acne I get turn to black spots and take forever to go away.

The fact is you probably notice it more than everyone else. My mom is very sensitive about her acne but that fact is no one notices it... Don't let it bother you =]
Reply:Try Proactive.
Reply:I also have adult acne but I use prescription medicine for it and it works. Try to not touch your face through out the day and change your bedding every week also drink tons of water.
Reply:I often go to the "Cosmetics Cop" website for skincare info and reviews of makeup/skincare products. The "battle plan for blemishes" at http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/art.as... has great info on controlling acne. This website also sells their own skincare products, but the directions given can be applied to products from any brand. Plus they also give reviews/recommendations of other products.
Reply:I've never suffered from acne myself and really feel for you, and I know that proactive is expensive...but if it can make you feel better about yourself...isn't it worth it? It seems to be the most consistent product avalible right now, and if you try it and it doesn't work, you don't have to keep using it...

Good Luck.
Reply:Proactive is very helpful, but you are right, it is also expensive. What I do is get other brand products with the same ingredients. For example, I use Clean and Clear-Blackhead Clearing Scrub with salicylic acid,Clean and Clear Cooling Daily Pore Toner, and Clean and Clear Maximum Strength Persa-Gel 10 with benzyol peroxide. The way to avoid the dryness and redness is by applying the lotion only on problem areas and using the other two products once a day. You can slowly increase the application if once a day is not enough. When I started college my acne really began to flare up, but now my face is a clear as it has ever been. Hope this helped.
Reply:there still is no scientific proof that how much water you drink determines the clarity of your skin. true, it does help rid your body of toxins, but you water intake does not affect your skin as much as some people say.

proactiv never worked for me. tried it for 3 years, hoping my skin would get used to it. neither did peter thomas roth (too drying) or murad. i ended up asking for an rx but that just dried me out as well.

what works for me now is (crazy as it sounds) st. ives. its been working miracles.

also, be sure your make-up in non-comedogenic and oil free.
Reply:Try ProActiv or ClearPores and make sure you are washing your face properly. Also, drink enough water daily.
Reply:Find some effective natural

remedies for acne.
Reply:If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:
